I agree with your view. Think Stones and Otamendi are about equals passing wise.

They are different in style and technique and
Stones has a calmer disposition and a more confident air about himself when in possession.

They are a bit like the defensive versions of Silva and Debryune in creativity. Silva has better control and makes better short link up passes while Debryune is more frenetic and has more errors in his passing but also more range.

Stones being the Silva and Ota the Debryune in that analogy :)

There is a reason why Stones is doing the "get the ball out" when he plays and not otamendi. because he is better in that and peps thinks he is better in that. it's not up to debate imo :D

Otamendi is OK as long as he doesn't try to be KDB and chip the ball in the box as he fails it each time :) but Stones is he champ

Otter has come on leaps and bounds in his passing through sheer hard work and a willingness to learn, he deserves massive respect for that.

But Stones is a natural, his reading of play and his range of passing is instinctive and that's why Otter will never be his equal in this regard.

They aren't, it's not even close.

Otamendi is pretty good at it, Stones is completely world class at it. Our attack has been miles below the level it should be since he got injured and the main reason is opposition now have their centre forwards mark Fernandinho as they know Otamendi and Kompany can't do the high tempo precise passes through midfield to turn the opposition that Stones does. Otamendi does it occasionally but not the 15 times a game Stones does.

I'm still amazed some people can't see this difference. It's the choice, the tempo, the precision of the pass Stones gives to Silva & KDB that sets him apart.

Opposition managers are clearly seeing the difference even if some City fans can't.

Just saw a clip on the app of the team training and Stones appeared at the end; looked like one to one training. Should back back very soon I reckon.
