Every coach in professional get's it wrong of course there are late developers. We shouldn't slam the door in any of the EDS lads faces when but at this time we cannot afford too many gambles when it comes to promoting from within.

We can, but we don't take them, so we never find out.

It never has & never will be, 'a gamble' to try out young players.

It is a myth & I think it actually started on here. You rarely hear anyone in football agree with it. They always say the complete opposite.

If you don't try them how do you possibly know is another cliche. Pep has stated they aren't ready for the first team (and a few have been training with the seniors all season)

It may be a cliche, but it's actually true & generally accepted as such.

There is no evidence that trying out young players is any way harmful to a club at any level. If you have to fill the team with them, it can be a catastrophe.

Trying out different faces & keeping the ones who perform & increasing their game time, no problem. If none are good enough, buy some who are & bring them through.

Pep should have about ten to work with now, who should have been weeded out by Pellegrini. Instead, he has 18 year olds who have never played a proper game & a bunch of older kids who played youth/reserve team football for 5 years before going stale & being loaned out.

What he should have, are young players who have been tested, at least one of whom should be a fullback.

Maffeo had been given a chance in the League Cup last season. While he did as well as he is capable of performing it wasn't enough to picked ahead of Zaba and Sagna, and was loaned out in January to be given more game time.

He couldn't have done much more than a man of the match performance at Old Trafford!

When will that be though?

It's been nearly a decade since we've had a player come through and establish themselves into the first team.

3 Managers with different playing styles hasn't helped. Changing the academy coaching staff hasn't give the kids much of a chance either.
