Lack of striking options

We actually played pretty well scoring plenty of goals last season for a spell when all our strikers were injured, it was when we got our strikers back that we quickly went downhill.

It's hard to find the right cost-value-age-quality balance when signing a player specifically as back-up. I imagine Raheem is the third choice central striker in a crisis.

None of the Premier League top 5 have great striking depth: the fitness and form respectively of Costa and Falcao at Chelsea is dubious, Arsenal only have Welbeck and Giroud, United have an ageing Rooney and Hernandez, who's not been a worthwhile player since the turn of the decade, and Liverpool have Benteke, Ings and Sturridge, with only Benteke likely to play more than 20 games for then this season. Then there's the likes of Walcott and Remy, who are more hybrid wide forwards who will only play there on a needs-must basis.

Bony is widely underrated on here; as back-up, hes superb, and offers a lot more overall than Dzeko ever did. We've been spoilt in recent times, generally carrying 4 £20m+ strikers in our squad, but our system has changed and such a policy wouldn't be sustainable with only one regular starting slot up top.

In a system of one up front this season, we would be hard pushed to sell joining City to a top class striker knowing that they are likely to get very little (if any) game time behind Aguero and Bony. With those 2, as well as Stirling and even Silva able to play there in an emergency, plus Iheanacho who Pellegrini will want to get sone game time this season, possibly in cup games, for me we have enough options up front

If ever there was a non issue, it's having Aguero, Bony and Iheanacho as our three striking options for one position and Sterling for emergencies.

I thought this was a bumped thread from the Corradi/Samaras/Vassell/Dickov days.

Agreed, and the thing with Sergio is that as 1 of the 3 top strikers in the world he is irreplaceable and to try and replace him with like for like off the subs bench is impossible. Bony, Iheanacho and Sterling are fucking good options. Hopefully Sergio doesn't get injured, but if he does then Bony would get a run of games, which would do him no harm. Our set up of 4 2 3 1 leaves us a lot less exposed up top
