The Westminster Paedophile Dossier

A former Eton College student avoided jail today despite making and distributing ‘appalling’ indecent images of children and bestiality film clips.

Andrew Picard, from Westminster, London, was found with more than 2,000 pornographic images of children on his computer at the prestigious school near Windsor, Berkshire.

The 18-year-old son of a top lawyer sat in his college dormitory sharing the pictures in chat rooms and was 17 when he was caught sharing material with an undercover police officer.

Picard, who was arrested at Eton after his IP address was traced there, admitted ten counts of child pornography - and at Oxford Crown Court was today handed a ten-month prison term, suspended for 18 months.

He was let off jail after being credited for his work with doctors in the past year to address his offending - but this was said to be a perk of his privileged position.

The offences dated from January to February last year when Picard made indecent images of youngsters and shared them via chat messages on Skype.

Thousands of images and clips were found on Picard’s computer and hard drive that showed acts so appalling that Judge Peter Ross could not bring himself to describe them.

Others showed children as young as two being raped and forced to have sex with dogs.

Detective who wanted to speak to minister taken off case

A detective was removed from his post after telling colleagues he wanted to approach Paul Boateng - then government minister in charge of police.

Multiple sources have told the BBC they believe Det Insp Clive Driscoll intended to ask Mr Boateng what - if anything - he knew of a known paedophile, John Carroll.

But before Mr Driscoll could approach him in 1998 he was axed from the case.

There is no suggestion Paul Boateng - now a Lord - had done anything wrong.

Now under the supervision of the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), the Metropolitan Police has for three years been reviewing why Mr Driscoll was ordered to leave the south London borough of Lambeth in November 1998, and what happened to the information he had gathered.

Justice Lowell Goddard, who this month begins hearings for her inquiry into historical allegations of child sexual abuse in a wide range of institutions, has stated that one of her priorities will be to get to the bottom of what happened in Lambeth, one of the most troubled and scandal-plagued councils in the UK.

Specifically she plans to examine "allegations that there was inappropriate interference in law enforcement investigations into the sexual abuse of children in the care of the Council".

That Eton pupil (17 years old though so hardly a kid) getting off with a suspended sentence for possessing and sharing pictures that are nothing short of evil is a piss-take. I know that for shorter sentences first time offenders are often spared a custodial sentence so even with how disgusting his crime was I can really stretch my brain and just about get my head around him not going to prison but he should have a tag and a strict curfew and limits put on his internet use for the duration of the sentence too.

What I have a big problem with is that he is allowed to use his mother's maiden name so that he and his family can save some face. As the blog above says the only way he could do that is with the approval of the police and courts and that is an outrage. One set of rules for them and another for the rest of us. Disgraceful.
