Madrid - where to stay?

We're a party of 5 making the trip, via Dublin, arriving around 10am match day.

None of us have visited Madrid before and it looks like we're spoilt for choice at the moment.

I'm keen to learn where most blues will be supping on match day etc so I don't foolishly book a hotel which costs a fortune in taxis etc.

The Gran Via area looks popular but I'm also conscious that we'll have to to and fro the Bernabeu to collect tickets too.

Any sensible suggestions would be appreciated.

Feck hotels mate for a party of 5. Book a hostel dorm. Cheap as chips.

Looks like City fans are on it already as most are selling out fast. What can you expect at those prices..

The vast majority of the City fans will congregate in the Plaza Mayor so Gran Via will be fine. If City had any sense, they'd set up the collection point in or near Plaza Mayor.

We've got a hotel 800 metres from Plaza Mayor. Sleeps 5 for £152.

Stay around Peurto Del Sol or simply "Sol". Slap bang in the Heart of Madrid....

Because of the metro Madrid is really well connected and cheap, a 10 journey pass is less than 15 euro (and each of those journeys can involve numerous swap-overs to other lines).
Like most have said, Gran Via, Sol, Plaza Mayor are good, but also La Latina, Lavapies are two that I would recommend.
