Aged 66. News just coming through.

Former IRA commander, tried to kill Thatcher, talked to the British as a precursor to the IRA ceasefire, key figure in the Good Friday Agreement, became mates with Ian Paisley and the Queen and latterly renowned as an influential peacemaker.

Certainly an extraordinary life and an incredible turnaround to make peace with his once hated enemies.

Controversial and divisive figure certainly, but perhaps one worth talking about. Remember we're all friends here.

Having grown up in Northern Ireland in 70s and 80s, including living in Londonderry from 86-91, this morning I included in my prayers the victims of his terrorist gang and others murdered by terrorists (which include friends if mine)
