Raised the same point on page 85 of the post match thread! No one replied - maybe no one could contemplate the similarity recurring and the 4-3 being too much of a coincidence! Not worrying yet!

Good point - didn’t realise the scum had two games in hand on the Toon after the 4-3 (they did have one on us which they won to reduce the gap to 12!)

I didnt' realise they had two games in hand either so effectively it was only a 6 point lead Newcastle lost? Does anyone what the biggest 'true' point lead that season was? i.e. taking games in hand into consideration. The 12 point loss of the league is banded about a lot in the media and has become established fact.

That compares to both our title wins then.
Utd 8 points clear with 6 to go (with a better GD at the time)

There is a pic as of the league table in 13/14 as well we have 5 to go Liverpool 3.

Liverpool Played 35 points 80
City Played 33 points 71

Think Chelsea were above us as well.

Never gets a mention.

Just to clarify, on the 20/1/96, Newcastle beat Bolton to go 12 pts clear, on 54pts after 23 games. Utd were also on 23 games, 42pts and did not play this day. Utd played 2 days later and won. Utd never had 2 games in hand being 12pts behind and Newcastle's 12pt lead lasted for just 2 days.

It makes fuck all difference. It will be more than 12 points again in a couple of games time!

To think the rags won the league that year with only 75 points Newcastle finishing on 68 we'll have that in 2 more games ha.

That’s very interesting and (for a dyed in the wool “Typical Cityite” like me a bit worrying!) Guess we can take some comfort from the quality of our squad and manager vs Keegan’s Toon Army! Still don’t like the analogy of the 4-3 and hope it another myth perpetrated by Sky (presumably after they read my post on the Liverpool post match thread! CTID (and beyond!)

That **** Ashton reckons we’ve been found out and he “feels a fraud for suggesting” we were one of the best teams of the PL era as we “only managed 22 undefeated”. Also said Ederson is full of mistakes and hadn’t been tested.

Look at the paper he works for.

The Times, Telegraph or Guardian wouldn’t accept any of that nonsense.

Let them print what they want its us City fans who will have the last laugh and have a warm smug feeling at the end of the season.
