Motown

This record was played continually in discos and nightclubs (including Wigan Pier) throughout the UK and can only assume that you only started going to discos as a young John Travolta with your 5 inch platform soles, penny collars shirts and opened to show your chest, with wide flaired trousers and dashed out in a pearl white jacket.
Me !! A true Mod mate and collector of some wonderful Soul/Tamla etc records from a shop in John Dalton Street,Rare Records. The guy used to buy some wonderful imports from the States and he couldn`t get enough copies quick enough for the demand of Wade In The Water, which was played throughout the disco land.I have Ramsey Lewiss` hits in front of me and I accept he primarily is a Jazz pianist/group but it didin`t stop him from playing other well known tracks not connected to Jazz.On the album I`ve goy here mate its got a Beatles number,Hard Days Night,Hang On Sloopy,Function At The Junction, blah, blah, blah.
Now back off or I`ll have to run you over with my yellow Lambretta GT 150 Scooter. ;)

I was born in the 70s so was more of a floppy sunhat and whistle kinda guy to be honest, a 90s raver than 70s disco fever, it was all hugs and love when I was clubbing mate.

Now start a thread on Jazz if you want to listen to Ramsey Lewis ;-)

Motown/soul its all the same innit.;)See my response to Paul Lakes Left Knee ref Ramsey.
Looks like you had a similar upbringing to me then, in which case I offer 'Wade in the water' by Big Mama Thornton as the superior version, Oh and Wigan Pier??..Casino surely. More VA VA's in Bolton and Blackpool Mecca when I was on the way up...KTF.

I quite like Jazz mate.Seen Jamie Cullum three times me and the missus.

I quite like all genres of music, from metal to classical there is something I like in all of them probably as I grew up hearing such a wide range of music dad like classical/country, mum rock n roll/soul, brother metal/indie, sister shockingly naff pop, however jazz is something I have never quite got.

The Wheel had long gone by the time I was throwing down talc...I caught about the last year of Wigan, which was in a terminal decline of war between trad soulies and new DJs playing the theme from Hawaii 50...so Bolton/blackpool/stoke it was...for a while.
Rare records was great, as was the Spin Inn....

WOW mate, love Big Mama and had a listen to a few of her songs.Never heard that original Wade before so it`ll be downloaded on my Ap etc.Watched a docu some 12 months ago about Wigan and how it closed and the impact it had on people.Only went there three times and I got kinda pissed off as there was no bar there, but as you say plenty of other ways to "feel happy".
You are so right about the new DJ`s.
