Do you reckon we could map out what terms the areas of Manchester use? I think we all agree on crusty cob, roll etc. (the other varieties)... but after 841 pages it might be worth concluding something.

I think all central and east North Manchester (to Failsworth and I'd think Newton Heath) use Muffin from what I can tell? Collyhurst being right next to town and under the influence of international words like Barm may be otherwise.

Does this sound about right?

Manchester City Centre - Mix
North Manchester area - Muffin
East Manchester area - Barm
South Manchester area - Barm
Salford area - Barm
Outer N. area (e.g. Rochdale) - Muffin
Outer N.W area (e.g. Bury) - Muffin
Outer N.E area (e.g. Oldham) - Muffin
Outer S. area (e.g. Wilmslow) - Barm
Outer S.W area (e.g. Altrincham) - Barm
Outer S.E area (e.g. Stockport) - Barm
