Hola!

Going to a Mexican party tomorrow night and I've been asked to try and source some music for the event. I haven't the foggiest when it comes to Latin/Salsa music - or most other genres - and was looking for a decent compilation to put together/buy.

Any pointers would be muchas appreciated.

La cucaracha , ''Canta, No llores'',etc are stereo-typical favs.

Los Lobos have an entire of album of Mexican songs..they are chicanos/Mexican Americans.

Maná are a popular Mexican r'n'r band. Juanes and Shakira are popular but Colombian... but no one will know nor care.

Also Los Fabulosos Cadillacs from Arg aren't bad.

When Nery Castillo was introduced to the fans at coms before the spurs cup game, they played Misirlou by Dick Dale

Not really a mexican song I dont think, but is rather good

Cheers chaps. I'll keep searching the internet for some tunes. Really hard to get hold of all the well known ones from one place though (Ritchie Valens, Gipsy Kings, The Champs, Herp Albert, etc).
I asked the host if I could just get some Cypress Hill CDs on the go, but apparently that aint authentic latino stylee. Purists! I'll just wait till the Tequila has all gone and sneak it on.

Worth the 35 second wait...

The Coasters - Down in Mexico
Taken from the Death Proof film(A bloody good film as well):
