Henning Mankell wrote a story in the Kurt Wallender series titled "The Troubled Man". It is based on an even which occurred in 1982 when a Russian submarine allegedly encroached Swedish territorial waters. Swedish production company Yellow Bird did do a TV film based on the book.
There is a rumour that the current incident is a publicity stunt being engineered to create a film role for Nicholas Cage.
