Napoli post-match thread

Trouble is, had that been a knockout match, and not a group game, we would not be favourites to go through right now, because we gave a silly goal away. In the knock out stages, we would have to go there and not lose as well as score twice.

We've had a great start, played some great football, and had some fabulous results, and last night was a great result in a group game, but we were one great save away from not winning, and that needless penalty would probably be very costly in the knockout stages, as we found last season with Monaco.

Let's remind ourselves that it wasn't a knockout match and that we played a very good team in a group game. In two weeks we'll play them in another group game in Naples and Pep and the lads will have to approach that accordingly. We would have played the last 65 mins very differently and made (different?) substitutions at different times had it been a knock out match - or had KdB's shot hit the bar and gone in or Jesus's shot not been blocked on the line. We don't want to start playing two different games at once.

if that was a knockout game ,we won 2-1 why would we need to score twice ? any draw would put us through even a 0-0

Great win indeed. It was a tough test and we came through. John stones is becoming a top top defender. Love the way he is leading the defense. So much assurity about everything he does. And saving that shot on open goal was world class

I didnt get that feeling against the bindippers, they had a couple of chances due to the back three being exposed with Mendy pushing so far forward Salah was given free reign to attack but to say hell was let loose, well even with 11 players we would still have won.
A lot of neutrals would say from that point on they threatened to score time and again. Whilst it wasn't a one sided affair I thought the number of chances they had was more than ours but like I stated in my earlier post, because they were behind and needed to equalise, anybody that started watching from that point would think they were doing better.

Just watching the replay, that second goal is a thing of beauty, started from the keeper, a great number of passes, one poor clearance from them, then that pass, and a simple finish.

Not quite as good as the opener at WBA, but given the opposition, wonderful stuff.

The shot by KdB that hits the bar, equally good football, Walker wins the ball then a great pass, great movement, and passing, piss poor shot
