Unfortunately it seems the press are desperate for him to go to Chelsea or Utd and don't miss an opportunity to big them up whilst we're labelled the graveyard for young English talent.We should be all over trying to sign Stones but sadly we seem to be the only club out there not linked with him.

Very true on both counts.
I wish we could see these sort of players when they are a £7 mill snip.
Stones is now on the radar of Europe's elite and will be even more so after Euro 2016 so January might be our last opportunity to get him; £45m would probably break Everton's resolve.
The fact that Denayer is being primarily used at RB by Galatasaray suggests he isn't ready to slot into the centre of our defence, but as people have pointed out he could prove to be a solution for us to replace Sagna next season with a view to gradually developing into a centreback.

Ben Chilwell will be the next defensive super-talent to emerge in the Premier League in the next 18 months; Arsenal are already looking at him and once he does breakthrough he'll be going for £30m+, as he's got everything Luke Shaw has but looks even better with the ball.
The gulf in class between him and Angelino in the youth cup last year was almost comical, so I'm shocked we didn't move for him in the summer, especially as both our current leftbacks are ageing and mediocre anyway.

for sure, he's english and very calm on the ball. i can't see denayer working out with us tbh.
We don't have any world class defenders, VK is too injury prone to be in that bracket, and the rest just aren't at that level.
Otamendi is world class in my mind. He's our best defender at least.

We need a) New fullbacks as ours are all 30 or approaching.
b) A replacement for Yaya who actually covers ground and wins the ball when we lose the ball. This would relieve so much pressure on the back 4.

We already have Fernando & Fernandinho to do this job.
