Fernandinho has agreed terms with Manchester City over a new one-year deal and will sign imminently. [Sunday Mirror]

Pep: "Right now Fernandinho is one of the best, best, best three holding midfield players. With his mentality he gives us a lot."

  2. Sam Lee says in the latest podcast that Mullock has an in at City, consequently this is likely to be true. Fantastic news he's one hell of a player doing all the unseen dirty work in the engine room of the team.

Very well it should be said (Delph).

Fernandhino has been brilliant this season, because he only has to do his own job, not half the defences.

I hope he gets longer, he is the glue that allows the rest to play, and its become more evident this season that he can also play great passes, and not just be protection, but he also needs a break now and then.

This guy has been outstanding since we bought him. Great news this. I was a bit worried of reports linking us to Can

Great news about Fernandinho. He's absolutely vital to the way we play.

He is,and as such, this extension is wonderful news......which is why we need to quickly identify his apprentice/replacement.

Should we,for any reason,be unlucky enough to lose his services for an extended period in the meantime,it will very quickly become apparent just how crucial to our efforts he is.

Yeah, it's certainly a concern. Gundogan and Toure can both play as a pivot, but neither offer what Fernandinho brings to the side. Gundogan is more of a number 8, and Toure is too immobile. Luckily Fernandinho rarely gets injured (touch wood), but surely a long term successor will be targeted in the summer.

He barely had any games anywhere until he shrugged off injury. This is possibly the first spell in his City career under Pep i.e. the last two seasons where he has had a run in the side.
