No one said this at the time. All after the event. You could make a good club 'historian' with that level of analysis. The finances were not massively different from Div 2 to Div 1, the sale of kinky, Bradbury and the cost cutting in 1998, and what the club said at the time differs from one Hollywood statement afterwards.
How could we spend millions on players in 1999/2000 if we were so skint? Season tickets went up a tenner didn't they? TV money was less than the million or so ITV digital introduced.
