Paul Power interview in The Independent

so theres no point in the academy then ? only world stars should make it into our team or our squad. the majority of our team isn't stars ...... we played kolarov at centre back instead of giving tosin a chance. they dont have to be stars to be good enough.

your missing the point we want instant success and and top 4 every season and the players you need are not really going to come from the academy just yet and they need time to developed and unless your a superstar and ripping it up at youth levels then your not going to get near this manchester city first team its sad to say it but its the truth

we are all to blame in a way we love winning silverware and getting top 4 every season the pressure is so high on the manager and the club to win each week its a no win for young players
yes clubs like everton and the rest of the middle of the road teams in the league can blood youth without it being a gamble but the truth is how many in the top 4 are built on youth

chelsea arsenal and city united spurs and liverpool have bought and spent big at youth level to to build up the academy is not easy to find local young kids just around the corner it just does not happen and maybe the dream is one day a superstar will come from the academy but will it be a manchester lad that is the golden ticket

He talks of Everton's use of academy players and their recent history of blooding youngsters, as if we should follow that path. Sorry, but we don't have to take the inherent risk involved with that. Ergo, Everton have, in the last ten years, won the square root of...fuck all, City meanwhile...

To Simon hart, perhaps one of the reasons football has hit the patch it has with youth academy and overall approach to the game is because of yours and many other journalists that thrive on negativity and criticism where it is not due. The read starts off with words "yet" "but" and "slump". Of course you can't help but mention "peps heaviest defeat at Everton since his start at the club". Pep has only been at city seven months.

At first I thought great stuff a read up from a player who was at city in my first days of watching city, but then it soon becomes the usual excuse to have a dig at city. .

Any club in Europe would love the academy set up at city but yet "17 pitches" is thrown in as though it is ridiculous.

Yawn....
