Pellegrini in talks with Everton

Yet why is Mourinho still such a wanted man after what he did to Chelsea this season?

Thats what ive been asking myself, because i dont think its completely down to management skills. The way the scum operate i wouldnt be surprised if its just to generate headlines week in week out

Is he really that wanted? Wanted by the rags, in a desperate attempt to arrest their decline into irrelevance, further compounded by our announcement of Guardiola. His other offers where PSG, where Blanc has repeatedly failed in the CL and winning the league means sod all, or Valencia, who finished 12th in La Liga.

I only really get my footy news from here but as I understand it he had no proper 'top' offers, just like Pellegrini hasn't. The market considers them both very much second rate it would seem.

Pellegrini had both Villarreal and Malaga punching above their weight. I'd rather not see him managing another Premier League side but I think he'd do well at Everton. Valencia seemed an obvious destination but they've taken their caretaker on. There's also talk of Zenit St Petersburg.

Zenit have hired the Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu from Shakhtar Donetsk so are no longer an option for Pellers. Maybe he'd be an option for Sevilla if Unai Emery gets the Everton job ahead of him?

It's a bit soon for Pellers. Generally when mamnagers have been out of work their stock rises slowly overtime as people forget the prior failures - you wouldnt have got Morinho signing at the swamp 2 weeks after he left chelsea as it would be all too fresh in the mind. Give it a couple of months and people forget. I think Pellers name would have been mentioned for all top jobs if had waited. He has managed top sides and they by default makes you a top manager.

One possitive for us is he could be interested in a few of our players

Very fair point. I think he would be happy going to Everton though. He could take a bit of a rest and maybe take over another top club if they do a mid season firing, but I think he was genuine when he said he wanted to stay in the Premier League.

Everton would be mad to appoint him.

Exactly.

WTF would they want a manager that has managed Real Madrid and then us for the last 3 seasons, winning a league and cup double, another league cup as well as providing CL football culminating in a semi final appearance this season?

Madness!!

Yeah that doesn't wash with me mate. I know you've used it to back him for the last couple of years when most others had seen through him but I remain convinced it'd be madness, madness I tell you..

The best squad in the league was decimated by injury. If you took Terry out of Chelsea's team 2 seasons ago, would they have won the title (and were missing a lot more than our Captain) ?

He made some mistakes in his final season, but he's still a good manager. He left because Guardiola became available, and even before it was announced the speculation was intense that Guardiola would take over. Its been going on for over a year, and that probably contributed a lot towards the poor season we had.

I agree with this.

Plus, can I also add, Mr Pellegrini has proved to be a most calm and respectable figure and following the somewhat volatile Mancini, this was apparently what we wanted. Now, with hindsight, maybe he was too laid back and that transmitted itself to the team on the pitch? However, look on the Man Utd. thread and all the comments about what an eye-gouging tw*t their new manager is!!! Also remember what a cnut SAF was! I personally liked having a 'gentleman' manager not one of those kn*bs. But maybe, to be a mega-winner, you need to have a harsh side, does Pep?

For example, I remember Pellers said something about he would rather keep his word, than win a cup (I can't recall the exact quote) regarding the decision to keep Cabellero in goal for the League Cup Final and I was 100% in agreement with that (especially after the match!) Contrast that with SAF, who 26 years ago dropped Jim Leighton for Les Sealey between the Cup Final and the replay - which I read recently basically destroyed the bloke. (Wish he'd kept him in to be honest, had they lost he may have been sacked! But that's a whole re-writing of history, too far!)

I for one admired Pellers during his time at City and appreciated having a manager with integrity, but as I keep having to say on here - being a City fan for 40 years makes me see things slightly differently to younger posters. I wish him well, if he does join Everton, except of course when they play against us!
