Pep's Barca was the smallest team in Europe in 2011, so not a concern. Let the others worry that their teams are more suited to rugby than proper football.

Bayern had a lot of dwarfs last season, too - especially when Kimmich and Alaba played central defenders. Müller and Lewy with their 1,86 m were the tallest then. Bayern did not get one goal with a corner last season... ;)

You're too hung up on the defensive side of things, you don't need to be a DM to play there. The whole game, possession and transition runs through that pivot role and there's no one at the club really capable of doing it. Fernandinho is a good stand in but it's not really his game. Gundogan might not be a defensive player but he's intelligent, composed and he's the one player who can sit there and distribute the ball.
