It was a pop magazine. Strangely enough I recall an interview with Mick Hucknall in Smash Hits, in which he confesses to be being a City fan as a kid. His excuse for turning coat was that United were shit at the time and he felt sorry for them and wanted to stick up for the underdog.

Yup...he was. Met him a few times socially in the mid 80's when I was a man about the town and he was a preening twat with no social graces. Rude to bar staff, bouncers alike. One of the "do you know who I am" brigade.
