Exactly what 'experience' does Foden gain playing for some fucking numpty at U21 level, in a team full of numpties, at Grimbsby, when in his day job, he has been playing for Pep.Guardiola in the Champions League & has already been star man in the World Cup at U17 ?

All it will do, is 'put him in his place' rather than fast tracking him past it all.

He gets games, he hasn’t played 20 professional matches, personally I think a player should achieve something before going into the senior England team

We’ve seen it with Rashford, Phil Jones, Tom Cleverly etc. Now, Foden is better than the lot of them jut lets jus let him play some games before over promoting and raising his profile

completely agree. We have already seen that Foden is a far better footballer than those that Southgate prefers to stuff his midfield. Think he would relish playing behind Raz, Vardy and Wonder boy. Yes, he lacks physicality, yes he is young but fs give him the opportunity and start integrating him into the squad now. Same with Gunn. England are clueless at international level.

For decades, England have been mainly shite as an international team. There was a period with Scholes etc when they could have been good but were managed by the personality obsessed media.

The rest of the time, they go through the motions of 'competing' for a tournament when they should instead be building a team for 4, 6, years in the future.

This team now should be all about the next World Cup & the future euros, & the players who might be part of that, not taking a bunch of journeymen on holiday.

Worth bearing in mind that the Spanish categorically don't over promote. They leave players down levels a lot. Thiago was with the u21s despite playing regular games for Barca at one point. Something to consider.

They usually have a team full of potential international footballers who pass the ball to each other though, rather than a bunch of athletes, many of whom are there as a 'reward' rather than because they are genuinely seen as future internationals.

The closer we get to the full England team, the dumber the football gets.

Establish some bloody footballing principles then try and select the best we have to fill those specific roles and meanwhile bring in youngsters that can contribute for the next 10 years. Between Spuds and City, England have the spine of a young team that could play attractive possession based attacking football. What we lack is a decent goalkeeper and creative midfielders but we have good youngsters in both those possessions. The rest of positions could be filled:

Walker
Stones
Maguire
Rose/Delph

Dier (best of a bad bunch
Foden
Ali

Stirling
Kane/Vardy
Rashford

Pep would get a tune out of that team for sure.

There will also be other young players knocking around, who are suited to international football & can keep the ball, move it around.

An example of how this goes wrong now, is Tammy Abraham. He is big & quick, so was a handful to young defences, & Championship standard players.

So he comes all the way through all age groups, to the full team, but he's not a very good footballer. If he is the future of England, they are in even deeper shit than we could ever imagine.

But we have to go through the motions of giving him game after game & commentators telling us how good he is, when in reality he is just blocking the development of a better footballer & should be about 6th choice.

Most kids who have ever played for England U21 are Tammy Abrahams not Paul Scholeses (or Phil Fodens).

They all should imo. The ones with talent. They should already be the U21s now, rather than persevering with nearly men who are obviously not going to be top players.

Stop trying to polish turds & start building a team full of footballers, & those who.are obviously not quite good enough, drop them & replace with other kids.

It could, potentially. If the transition and promotion is done properly. I'm not talking about 100 U21 caps, just some exposure to get a taste of actually playing
