This is a world record fine in any sport. They made a loss of more than £8m a few years back (£60m+ actually), when they were promoted Premier League and therefore failed FFP. The rules have been changed since then, so they tried to argue that the previous FFP regulations were not suitable. Looks like they have lost that battle and been hit with a £40m fine.
Does this not defeat the purpose of FFP?
We're led to believe it's suppose to stop clubs going into administration (yeah right) and they're handing out fines like this.
Bournemouth and Leicester also broke the regulations in their promotion seasons and should expect hefty fines as well.
