Radio Manchester City Coverage

The guy who commentated on the 1999 play of final was far better than cheesy in my opinion wonder what happened to him.

Andy Buckley is now Owner of Bucko Media Ltd specialising in PR and broadcasting. He set up his own media company after leaving the BBC in 2008 and writes web sites, brochures, books and newspaper articles. His excellent contacts book, built up over almost 40 years and knows what works for what audience. Broadcast clients include Olympic Broadcast Services and International Sports Broadcasting.

After he left the BBC he was Head of News at Channel M television for 2 and a half years

Then he was with OBS in Madrid as a reporter/producer at London Olympic Games and Paralympics in 2012; Sochi Olympic Winter Games and Paralympics in 2014; Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010 and Nanjing in 2014; Youth Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 2012.

He also worked as a producer/reporter for International Sports Broadcasting at SportAccord Conventions in St Petersburg (2013), Belek (2014) and Sochi (2015) and International Sports Federations Forum in Lausanne in 2014 and 2015.

Back in the day I preferred listening to James h Reeves with Brian Clarke doing the Commentary..'the city contingent are away to my left' he was hilarious.

GMR has been trying to turn Radio Manchester into just "another" bloody pop station for 30 years. This is another attempt.!!!!!

The BBC prefers to use its billions of guaranteed income to compete head on with commercial broadcasters for audiences.

That's why the corporation makes loads of TV light entertainment and pop music radio, products which are provided in vast quantities by the commercial sector.

The BBC will increasingly abandon anything which doesn't bring in the audiences it thinks justifies the compulsory licence fee and keeps it popular with the dismal souls who enjoy soap operas, endless 'dramas' about police and doctors and nurses, decorating houses, selling and buying knick knacks, talent competitions about ballroom dancing or baking cakes etc.

If the licence fee system does not deliver large amounts of uncommercial, distinctive broadcasting such as non-pop music local radio, classical music radio or high quality, limited appeal TV programming then it has failed in its public service remit and should be scrapped.

Cheers for that I met Andy a few times and had a lot of time for him he came across as a sound guy

Andy Buckley's reaction to City's equaliser, when his voice went higher and higher until he must have cracked every pane of glass in London, is one of those completely unforgettable moments in City's history. And yet Gary doesn't mention it in his (otherwise) admirable book!!!!

Mention Andy's commentary? Ah, well, not really a book to mention commentary, especially as I was at the game and never heard it (sorry!) but I will say this - Andy Buckley was a great broadcaster on City and his own book (with Richard Burgess), Blue Moon Rising, was a great book. If you can get hold of it, do so. Well worth reading.

Outstanding post.....The BBC should have been put out to grass long ago, no longer fit for purpose.

Dinosaurs in a modern world.
