We were poor and the officials were shite, but you also have to give Salzburg some credit. They were very organised and we couldn't break them down.

The best team won,but we were denied two incidents that would have changed the outcome.Nothing wrong with the header first half and Grimshaws pen save was perfectly fine.

We need more organisation and more urgency,we simply werent at the races against a team that was more physical and aggressive.

Davies is clueless,he simply doesnt inspire and switching to a back three was a terrible decision.

Brahim has been playing U 23's all season but gets included for this competition and a few "special" under 18's games. Sancho has mostly played under 18's but increasingly has played some 23's game plus this competition.

It will be interesting to see how they progress after this. They looked pretty good tonight but we might have made them look better than they are as we were so BAD.

Ah ok cheers for the info.

Missed the game and I could be wrong but it looks as though the level is much higher in the UYL than we are seeing in our youth league, we could have done with them going further to test them against better competition rather than letting them coast to 5-0 victories in the league and believe there's not much room for improvement.

Fair result that. They were much more direct and physical than we were. Should be a bit of a wake-up call, and shows that it takes more than a few skillful players to win tough competitive matches. We had a few decent moments but we seemed tactically naive and without much of a plan. Couldn't see much wrong with the saved pen, but a bit meh anyhow as we were lucky to be 1-1 at full time.

Didn't think the ref was too bad tbh. There were a few incidents from both sides that he let go (especially 1st half), although it's a bit annoying that ours get the cards again. In all fairness, there weren't that many bad challenges on our lads tho, we just seemed to get bullied off the ball fairly easily today.

They had a much better game plan than us & looked far more professional in every area.

But they actually missed a shedload of routine chances, most of which were gained by us running head first into their defence/midfield rather than passing the ball & still would probably have lost, without the ref/lino.

I'd be surprised if Barca etc have the same problems as us.

The manager didn't prepare the team properly or research Salzburg. The majority of our players weren't on it is that the managers fault?

For some of it of course the players have to take responsibility.

However you could see how disorganised they were and thats the manager. At one point we were growing into the game and at least getting into their box, the change to 3 at the back was an awful call and he should have recognised that after 5 minutes.

Honestly its enough to make you worry about the progression of our current U18's team who are superb under Carsley. Hopefully Davies is gone by the end of the season or else it will become time to worry.
