Labour shadow minister Sarah Champion has quit the party's front bench after criticism over a newspaper article she wrote about grooming gangs.

The Rotherham MP wrote in the Sun on Friday that "Britain has a problem with British Pakistani men raping and exploiting white girls".

She has now apologised for her "extremely poor choice of words" and quit as shadow equalities minister.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said he had accepted her resignation.

Ms Champion's article was written after 17 men were convicted of forcing girls in Newcastle to have sex.

The men, who were mostly British-born, were from Iraqi, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Indian, Iranian and Turkish communities.

'Dangerous precedent'
In interviews following the convictions, the Labour MP said such crimes involved "predominately Pakistani men" and said a fear of being called racist was hampering the authorities' investigations.

She then wrote the Sun article, which also included the line: "These people are predators and the common denominator is their ethnic heritage."

Among the article's critics was fellow Labour MP Naz Shah, who said it was "irresponsible" and "setting a dangerous precedent".

Following the backlash, Ms Champion sought to distance herself from the article, claiming it had been altered, something denied by the newspaper.

Child sexual exploitation is rife in nearly every town and city and only now is it being recognised. The harsh truth whether the PC brigade want to accept it or not is that the majority of those involved in this type of crime are British Muslims. The looney left then hit back with the usual bollocks that the higher percentage of paedophiles in the UK are white British, which is true, however a paedophile invariably commits offences agaist prepubescent children, whereas the victims in these grooming cases tend to be extremely vulnerable teenage girls agex 12 to 16 years of age who are from unstable backgrounds and have been exposed to poverty, domestic violence, unemployment, alcohol and drug abuse and sexual abuse. This is why these victims are hanging around fast food joints because their parents don't make their tea, they pack them off with a couple of quid for some chips or a burger, basically pushing them towards their abusers. These slime balls pick up on their vulnerability and desperate for any sort off attention these girls are coehersed through financial reward then violence. There lives are so bleek that alcohol, free pizza and weed seem a good option, but due to their young age they only realise the consequences when it's too late. They're children and no matter what they are given they only realise when it's too late that it wasn't through kindness it was because those showering them with gifts want something back in return.

The Police and Judicial system in this country are very much to blame for a lot of the failures in protecting these girls. Not because they don't care, but because the girls don't make great witnesses due to their lifestyles. Yes they tell lies, yes they're unreliable and yes are difficult to manage, but when opening any case at court of this type surely any barrister worth his salt must explain to a jury that if the victim hadn't been all of these things and witnessed the hardships of life then they probably wouldn't have been a victim in the first place.

Whichever way the judiciary and the apologists dress it up they did target young white girls and it needs to be sorted. I'm still fuming that the Dolphin Square mob haven't been brought to book both sets of degenerates targeted vulnerable children and we need very very harsh sentencing for the deviants in our midst.

Wholly inaccurate all that. The CPS seek to make victimless prosecutions in these cases because the girls will not assist. Regardless of any lies they may tell, which are of course understandable, they are always seen as and treated as victims. There is always other evidence of CSE other than the account of the girls themselves.

Wholly innacurate is a little harsh considering the public enquiries that have been conducted and that are on going into the failings of the Police, Social Services and the CPS.

If victimless prosecutions were that simple and cases can be run without their evidence why weren't they. The police and CPS in Rochdale were well aware of what was going on, but chose not to proceed as they didnt think they could secure convictions. This was with the victims being onside and providing video interviews, so despite this why did these previous CSE and grooming investigations never seen the inside of a court.
