My brother passed away twelve years ago and if I remember at the time they wouldn't allow ashes to be scattered on the pitch. We were directed towards the memorial garden as an alternative, however things may have changed since then.

By coincidence, I looked at the memorial garden after the game on Saturday. Ashes are not scattered, they're dumped, just being left in mounds on the earth. I suspect a high wind would blow ashes around. (They don't mix in the earth - even if buried, the ashes don't go anywhere.) The note about no memorials seems to be ignored, and It all looks rather undignified frankly, compared to how it started.
