Scouser Nails Modern Football - & It's the Same with Us

God I hate scousers. That whining twenty something twat sounded like a miserable octogenarian. He's arguing for a past that he can't possibly remember. The problems he described are small beer.

Any one who thinks that football was better in the past is a total fucking fantasist.
They are looking back with rose tinted glasses and misremembering.

Are there problems with the modern game?
Of course there are but they are not the problems we experienced in the 70s and 80s.
We used to worry about getting our heads kicked in getting to and from the ground.
The pitches were shite, the stadiums were shite (and in some cases dangerous) and so was the football.
Football fans were regarded as vermin after Heysel and Hillsborough and the game was dying.

We shouldn't be complacent, there are things that can, and probably will, improve.
Safe standing sections, fans that make a noise in the stadium, affordable tickets etc.

It's much better now and I still love it.
Looking forward to Palace tomorrow despite the early start.
I started going to City in 1973 and have had a season ticket since the mid 80's. Anyone who thinks going to the match in the 70's and especially the 80's was better just wasn't around or didn't go on a regular basis

Totally agree with him and that's why we have the apathy we have. The working man who is still clinging on is being squeezed financially and in the stadium being pushed to cheap seats so that someone with more money can have the seat he sat in when Pearce was churning out crap after crap years ago.

That's why we have the mass exodus for a pint at HT. The meet up with mates has become more important than the rest of it.
With terraces you stood with your mates and your mates mates - who then became your mates.
Do you even know the names of the blues around you sat there?
That's why people go off and seek their mates at half time.

Pretty much the same sentiments here.

Can't be arsed watching Football Focus or anything similar due to the bullshit which is on constantly - Rags , Dippers etc . Propaganda shite throughout.

Why would I be interested in the thoughts of Ian Wright etc ???????????????????

Completely agree with this. I don't need to hear what the bias institutions say about my club. And as for needing the opinions of thicko's like Wright, Savidge or Merson, I don't think so.

Overall he is correct, but the game has attracted a global following so its no surprise when you get millions watching the game on TV around the world that visitors to the country want to see some of the action for themselves.
If he was a supporter of any club other than Liverpool or the rags I'd have more sympathy. For decades coaches from the home counties, and Devon, ferries from all ports Ireland and planes from Scandinavia have arrived at Anfield and the swamp. Never seemed to be an issue then. But non white (specifically from the far east and Asia) tourists seem to irk many - and bare the front of 'everything that's wrong with the game today', taking pictures when players score rather than celebrating and, of course, wearing their cherished half and half scarf.
Maybe when Brexit arrives these 'soccer tourists' can be on the hit list of people to keep out and then maybe we can see the true figures of local fans turning up at Anfield and the swamp.

The commercialisation of English Football, in particular, has been to take the game off the “working class” and prioritise the disadvantaged in order raise revenue from the disinterested. As a consequence, intended or not, the soul of each club is/has been destroyed.

If you want evidence, look at all the sanctions that have been imposed on the game, both on and off the pitch, since the money turned up...

There also seemed to be quite a few Chinese at Maine Road in the Oasis hey day but nobody batted an eyelid.

The outrage at "tourists" seems a fairly modern phenomena.
I think it's more because we could go to the game then straight off for some mad nights out.
I'm not really on about tourists, I don't remember seeing that many as my last season was pearces final season but the seasons under Royle and keegan at Maine road were mint. The atmosphere in the north stand was brilliant and you could still stand at the back with no meither. My early years in the kippax in the 80's were good too because you could balloon about

SeasonCards costing regular fans more than £500. Half'n'half scarves, selfie sticks, tourists, day trippers. People going to the match just to say they went to the match (they may or may not support the teams on show and don't particularly care about the result). City coming out to warm up and half the stand clap but then Real Madrid come out to warm up and half the stand are falling over seats in a scramble to take photos and videos of Ronaldo in our own stand - fucking disgraceful! Clubs pushing themselves to a worldwide audience and making their core local fans feel disillusioned and feel like their clubs could drop their place name and just be called names like FC Moon City or The Reds FC or The Red Devil's FC if they'd get away with it. The matchday experience making it feel like a kids' theme park. Players claiming for everything even when it's blatantly obvious it's the other way. Players pretending to be injured when they're fucking not. Players acting hard for no reason with their "hard man" faux frown. The terrible terrible quality punditry on tele from thick as fuck morons who can hardly string a sentence together "he done well there" "he's went down too easy" and not knowing that adverbs have 'ly's at the end. The terrible terrible quality of football press and other media.

Modern football is fucking rubbish!

Quite right - it was agony & often embarrassing. We are living the dream comparatively.
