Apologies if already asked and answered (I imagine it must've been, but I've tried searching and can't seem to find it)

When I want to check the forum, but with no intention of posting, the 'news advert' comes on about City, on all forums. Obviously I can turn the news off by either logging in or at least the sound of the advert can be silenced by pressing pause, or muting the thing. It irritates me though when I have music playing.. it ruins the mood.

So is it completely necessary? If intentional what purpose does it serve?

The video ads help to pay the server costs, but are only served to guests. You could always click the box to stay logged in, that way you won't see/hear them.

Ah ok, obviously have no qualms about the purpose of ads, just wondered why it has to have the volume on as default. It's a nothing thing really, I'll tick that box, cheers.
