South America

Good grief.

What did you do if you don't mind me asking mate?
We couldn't drink in the hotel, just far too expensive.
Went up sugarloaf, which was fantastic, Christ the Redeemer which was rammed and cloudy.
The rest lunch and dinners plus drinks.
A tiny glass of beer, probably about a third of a pint, was $4.

We do have expensive tastes, but not there! Had some good homely meals in local restaurants as the hotel was too pricey.
We ate out but we were based between Copacabana and Ipanema beaches.

Patagonia is certainly on my hit list, as is Nepal.
Was in Nepal last year, loved it all, had a lot of fun in Kathmandu and Pokhara. Did some treks both touristy and off the beaten path ones, absolutely stunning. The touristy routes can be a bit disenchanting, but the scenery is just amazing and more than makes up for the commercialism.

Did you pay for tours to go to Sugarloaf etc...?

From what I have read many say you should try and do those trips yourself as the costs of the tours build up massively.

One thing mate, did you have jabs when you went?

Cusco and Macchu Picchu are great, Lima less so.
Santiago is nothing special really - I spent a fortnight in Chile, fantastic place.

We did Sugarloaf on our own

we took a taxi with another couple to Sugarloaf
Christ the Redeemer was part of our tour so paid nothing extra.
We did have to have jabs, but that's the norm for most places we go.

As I'm an FOC I'll probably do the touristy routes and pretty slowly, but sounds great
