Spiritualist Churches

I was baptized at the age 0f 19 into the Church of Christ in Coleraine - haven't attended it for quite a few years but have attended many other churches including Church of Ireland, Presbyterian, Free Presbyterian, Church of England, Methodist, Baptist throughout the years since

Although I pray twice a day, I believe if you are a good person, treat others with respect and how you wish to be treated regardless of colour, creed, race or religion you won't go far wrong in life

What have you been able to do since opening it? Or what have you experienced?

Each to their own, you may experience many things I've never experienced and vice versa.

A sense of enlightenment, how can I put it: I tend to see a bigger picture more often now.
I'm less judgmental of others, and pick up "vibes" off people... Just much happier, less concerned about materialistic
bullshit that I've been brainwashed with since birth.

Go for it yourself and see what you experience.

Used to go to them as a child (My Mother is a Spiritualist Medium and involved with the SNU)
So I have experience of being around these places and the people that attend.

Not been for many years as I have developed my own belief system as an Adult, which doesn't involve any religion.
They can provide comfort for people and also provide a social environment so they aren't bad places, I just believe
they are misguided.... As is anyone else who follows a particular religion.

I have belief in Healing however, and this is more to do with utilising Energy (which all living beings have)
in a positive way which can help in overcoming illnesses.
SNU Churches have Healing events.

Oh and @Malty a small donation is not required... Usually a collection tray is handed around but you aren't required to donate.

Witnessed some decent Mediums over the years, example was one bloke who would draw passed away relatives onto a blank canvas,
And they'd be spitting image of the person they were describing to the people in the audience.
Yes this could've been all staged - but knowing how the SNU churches work, it's highly unlikely... This isn't the Derren Brown show.

How the fuck he would know this info?

They believe in the afterlife, and that they can communicate with this other dimension.
I believe that they are telepathically communicating with us (My own Mother is a Clairvoyant Medium)
Similar to how other Animals do... But genetically we've lost the ability to do this, but many humans will still have
this long lost ability.
Certain tribes over the years were known to communicate like this before they learnt how to read/write.

So really they are able to tap into your subconscious thoughts, so if you're thinking of say your Grandfather who has physically died,
The Medium can pick up your thoughts (like a radio frequency) thus this is how they gather names, events and so on.

As for predicting the Future... My Mother's belief is that everything has already happened in a parallel universe/Dimension ... your Past, Present and Future has already occurred.
So she's able to again tap into this frequency.

I'm still waiting for the lottery numbers but she insists: "It may not be your destiny to be a millionaire steven"
I doff my cap to you sir, that is wummery at its finest

And there we have it. At the root of all religion is material greed be it money, land or influence. Where religion exists someone is always coining it one way or another. And there's always some poor sap willing to empty their pockets. Mankind will never learn.

I don't really want to poke the nest, but my view is that most (not all) religions aren't intended to be money making schemes or to have bad intentions when they started out. At their root is the hope that there is something other than this. But they get hijacked and twisted by people with exactly those intentions and they end up in a mess.

All of these can be very easily tested via the scientific method, to conclude one way of another whether they have any validity.

There are many people and organisations who would benefit from these. So we can be certain that they will have been studied in depth, many times over.

Which means there should be a wealth of (peer-reviewed, conclusive; not anecdotal) evidence to support it. Could anyone share this evidence? I'd love to see it.

I'd like to see this as well, either proven or disproven. Just seems more logical than alot of shit that's banded out there from all directions.
Most people who believe in a religion believe "their" religion is right and everybody's else is wrong.

This is why I don't follow a specific religion, and consider myself open minded and what I believe is from what I've experienced myself.

My mum was a spiritualist and believed in all that nonsense. She started going after my stepdad died. She got a great deal of comfort out of it and put a lot of time and effort into the Spiritualist church in Bury where she was on the committee. She genuinely believed and at the same time thought there was a lot of charlatans out there. She had always said that when she died she wanted a funeral conducted by a Spiritualist minister. So even though I thought it was all nonsense I made sure she got her wish. Some members of the family refused to attend because of their own religion, but fuck em. My mums last wishes came before them. It was a beautiful service, more like a humanist service for anyone who has ever been to one. I don't regret giving her the send off she wanted. I still think it's all utter fucking nonsense though.
