Astonishing
I had a poster, from a match program from Franny Lee's days as Chairman, of a re-built Maine Rd which was a new-Kippax Stand built all the way around the ground.

The most ridiculous development of the old Maine Rd was the replacement of the old Platt Lane which I think held 9,000 with a new stand holding 5,500.

And also two rows of corporate boxes I seem to remember?

My wonked up lopsided guess would be that if it were indeed a mammoth expansion (not just the 'initial' 60,000) then perhaps this would incorporated internally eventually...but I've no idea how far this wall is from the current perimeter of the stadium (spirals).

Dont think there was any 'replacement' involved. Someone at the time said they'd just bolted on a few blue plastic seats and stuck 2 rows of boxes on the top.

it was a replacement, old structure completely demolished.

however the new stand should have been built a lot lot bigger

I am sure my first derby was 68 and I always thought the attendance was 68,500
67-68 was 62,942 and 68-69 was 63,052.
I always thought the official capacity was around 63,000 before the Scoreboard End was extended, covered and turned into the North Stand. This increased the capacity to 66,000 but it was back down to 52,500 at the start of 72-73 when seats were installed in the North Stand.

Anyone interested in the Stadium expansion should go to the 1894 group forum on here. There is a thread about a meeting with the club, there is info on there for how you can acquire a ticket to go to this Q&A with people in the club.

Just been into the Expansion booth with a few questions, excellently staffed, they know their stuff as you'd expect.

A bit excited.
