Have to feel for this guy, so unlucky.

Bolton fear luckless United States international Stuart Holden could be set for yet another lengthy injury absence following his latest knee problem.

The 28-year-old has only played five times for Wanderers since March 2011, when a tackle by Jonny Evans, which earned the Manchester United defender a red card, saw his knee problems first surface.

His first comeback in September that year lasted just one game and he suffered another setback when he tore his anterior cruciate ligament on international duty in July.

On Monday night Holden took part in a Bolton Under-21s game for the first time since the summer but lasted only 23 minutes before limping off clutching that troublesome right knee.

"It's disappointing news for us all," said Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman.

"We don't know the exact result, (but) we feel that it's the same injury. He's had his scans and he's going to see his specialist on Monday.

"Hopefully he can read the scans and tell us good news, if not he'll need to go into the knee and have a little look."

Has to be one of the unluckiest players on the planet. Mentally, I don't know how he keeps coming back from these injuries. Really unfortunate as I think he could have played a part for the US in Brazil this summer. Wish him all the best and a quick recovery.

Yeh I really feel for him. It must be terrible being constantly injured like that. He is very talented player. I remember telling people that Bolton would not go down, because when Holden came back they would be a new team. He was that important to them. Oddly enough heard Coyle say the same thing a couple of weeks ago. He said losing him ruined their season and is the main reason why they went down. Hopefully he can get return from this and get back some form.

Johnny Evans. What a dick.
He also suffered a serious injury when the US played Holland after a NDJ tackle.
Great player, really unlucky with injuries
De jong wouldn't do something like that
