Summer Transfers

Except you said that they are (and I quote) "Defenders I'll take over Bonucci"
Yes. "In the top 5." The 4 posts prior to the one you quotedand he one you quoted formed a part of a back and forth on whether Bonnuci was a top 5 defender.

Following the list I wrote:
"Just to name a few CBs having far superior seasons to Bonnuci. And that also includes the often deemed Overrated Thiago Silva"

Clearly the point of the list and the thrust of the claim was to suggest Bonnuci was not having a top 5 season.

Even the portion you've quoted conveniently ignores the "this season" that precedes it.
Which suggests you got it but would rather argue over a strawman.

More fake news. But go on, I'm amused :)

as for CB, i prefer VVD rather than Laporte and Bonucci.
because he familiar with this league, tested and can speak english.
he's got leadership quality, same goes with Stones too.
as quality as Bonucci, he's aging and can't speak english.
in his age, he will be struggle to adapt in this league, just like Bravo.
as Italian backline are very good when defensive deep,
i doubt Bonucci still got a pace to play high defensive lines.
he will be perfect signing for Conte, but not for Pep.

I think it is in general a bit of a risk signing defenders from the Serie A. The way they play football down there makes (not only) defenders look very good, and they could easily struggle in other leagues. To give a couple of examples of what I mean.
Mehdi Benatia was captain of AS Roma, and considered to be one of the best defenders in Italy, before he went to Bayern Munich. He never made it there being too slow and not technically up to speed.
Andrea Barzagli played for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga between 2008 and 2011 and he wasn't very good there. In the end they shipped him back home to Italy as he was considered too old and slow for the Bundesliga. He has made a fine career at Juventus since then, not really suffering from soon being 36.

I know it is dangerous to generalize too much, but I am concerned that a player like Bonucci will not be half as good for us as he is for Juventus. I'd advocate against signing him, or any other Italian defender for that matter. It is in my humble opinion not a coincidence that old worn-out players like Evra, Klose etc. move to Italy and are able to prolong their careers with years after having to realize that their speed is no more adequate to other more physically demanding leagues.

Look I'm not even arsed about this argument but personally I do think Bonucci is a top 5 defender and has been from a few years now. I wasn't trying to manipulate you're post to win an argument It was just a v long post so I cut out the rest after you put the name Perrin.

Anyway, each to there own and all that, you've got your opinions so do I. Maybe I misinterpreted your post, if so then I apologise.

You could put Tevez in the proven list in fairness, one of our best ever.

True. Did miss Tevez, but still wouldn't make up for Kun, Merlin, Yaya, Zab and KdB.

Could have also included Hart and de Jong in the unproven list too.

I agree with the principle but there is something to be said for being Prem tested, whether it be just avoiding the speed bumps that come with getting used to the league; some players, wherever they play, just suit it like Fernandinho for example.

Hart was loaned to Birmingham before it was decided he'd be our number one.

Each player's different sure, it's more about their own quality as opposed to their league's after all.

Clearly the unproven list, but that doesn't really address the point the OP was making which was about Bonucci being almost 30 and playing in a league that is very kind to ageing and slower players. How many on your list was Italian centre backs?
