The Tories. Helping people avoid tax since 2010.
It was such an inconvenience having to re-Sellotape the “tax in post” sticker every time it fell off.

They've been doing that for their supporters for years, since William Pitt introduced that "temporary" imposition to help pay for the Napoleonic wars. The Tories. Helping people avoid tax since 2010.
Has technology vaulted forward in the last 3 years,it was pretty nailed on that when a visible tax disc was abandoned by the dreamers we have in power some would see it as a green light not to pay. The police used to check tax disc's think that little task was taken away from them.
2014 collection and enforcement is now in the jurisdiction of the DVLA rather than the police. The DVLA will send a fine then clamp the car then remove it if no tax is purchased. might have been easier if the police could see a valid tax disc. When?
I’ve know someone have their car seized for being untaxed in the last 12 months.
it does yes the ANPR system will pick up and they will stop and do you cos usually they aint insured either, but they used to chase up un taxed motors on street patrol that now falls to the DVLA.Their on board computer tells them doesn’t it?

Strange isn't it? When you log onto the DVLA site to tax your car they know from their data whether you have valid insurance and an MOT. So it must be easy for them to extrapolate data to tell them who has a car and has not taxed it. So either they don't want to or are avoiding the cost of having, say, bailiffs chasing up the people who don't tax their motors!
If the parking Gestapo were issued with ANPR devices, and their companies paid a modest commission, surely the number of offenders would tumble? Presumably the economics don’t stack up. Or perhaps the thinking isn’t joined up.Of course except............. in the good old days the disc was colour coded and plod could spot an out of date disc a mile off and get ya.... as could traffic wardens and Police foot patrols and so on. Now you have to drive past an ANPR equipped Police car or one of those DVLA camera's at the roadside ( usually an old shaped Astra estate). The assumption was made that everybody would tax their car in the face of these threats instead Joe Public knew Police numbers were being cut - traffic plod and when did you last see a foot patrol round your area looking at parked cars? Wardens were privatised and contracted to deal with parking not tax offences. When it comes to info on the computer ...IF a car is traced as being used by a static camera then a court can issue a summons for non-payment and bailiffs sent to clamp the car - unlikely due to cost. This only tends to happen AFTER a ticket is issued and usually for a parking offence. Its a fuck up based on the wishful thinking of civil servants policy wonks and MP's who haven't got a clue they just assume the proles pay all their taxes and let the higher tax dodgers carry on
