This has to be Jack Nicholson's finest performance as Jack Torrance the author/winter caretaker of the isolated & haunted Overlook Hotel,finally driven into a murderous axe wielding killer by a spell of cabin fever.

Kubrick is a genius. He did it how he wanted, and did it well.

I had never heard of never mind seen Barry Lyndon (a 1975 Stanley Kubrick film starring Ryan O'Neal) until 2 years ago but it is well worth watching,although I will grant it is a little on the long side.
