Uber taxis - the end of the black cab?

Been using UBER in the USA past week its great and so easy to use.

Uber is great here in Oz, 20 or 30% cheaper than normal cabs, free water, no tips required, nice people to chat too, what a great idea
I'd only use a normal taxi if there was no uber available

I've deleted Uber now. I had four drivers accept then cancel my journey presumably because it was't a good enough fare from Droylsden to Failsworth. They had also jacked the prices as it was peak. I complained direct and they fobbed me off with excuses.

How does a drivers own rating affect them? Can you cancel Naseem because he is 3.8 in hope that Vikram is 4.7? Never seen a driver with 5.0.
