Penalty shootouts in football could be transformed to make them fairer under new plans being looked at by Uefa.

The sport's European governing body is already trialling a new way for penalties to be taken in decisive shootouts.

Instead of teams alternating spot-kicks, Uefa is considering a new system similar to the tie-break in tennis.

Prelude to just awarding the side with the bigger brand the result knowing these bastards.

Stupid and unnecessary.
Something like 2/3 of shoot outs are won by the team that takes the first kick. If this change makes it 50:50 then it's a fairer way, so it's not stupid. A team shouldn't be given an advantage on the toss of a coin.

60%, if they came up with a similar stat for kicking off in matches would you want a drop ball?

Psychologically gives the so called big boys two bites of the cherry. They'll always elect to go second on this system.

It's a lottery anyway. Any that complains, should just be told, they should've done the business
during the game.

UEFA suddenly seem very quick to make all kinds of tinkering changes to the game except the one that everyone is crying out for: Video referee!

Isn't the mental aspect of taking a penalty...and penalty...part and parcel of the game, which adds to the excitement of the penalties in the first place? And, it is funny they show the Terry penalty, because that was caused by a slip! Was he too nervous to kick the ball??

Btw, has anyone taken the time to play out the 5 penalty system?

ABBA ABBA AB or even ABBA BAAB AB

Team that loses the toss still has to take their fifth penalty second!

Potentially, yeah.

It is still a lottery, but if you buy one ticket, and I buy one ticket, we should have an equal chance of winning! With your logic - why bother with the penalty shoot out at all - just decide it on whoever wins the coin toss. "Anyone that complains should have done the business during the game".

But they wont have to take the last penalty in every iteration, so it might not go that far, or it could go beyond. Either way they are taking it in turns to go first, and then last.

I dont think this suggestion is a perfect solution by the way, but the current method is clearly putting one side at a disadvantage from the get go.

Also, video referees are on the way but wont solve every bad decision.

go the whole tennis way and team must win by 2 clear penalties if it gets to 6 - 6 . Shoot out could last for hours . EXTRA TV income ..THAT has to be good.
