VAR (PL introduction 2019)

Exactly, Willian’s legs both came together as he jumped to instigate the contact. You could see all night how many players Chelsea have who frequently dive.
Pedro’s dive looked very much like a dive because Gunn pulled out leaving no leg for Pedro to initiate contact with, the defender who made contact with Willian left his leg stretched out so Willian had the opportunity to make it look worse than it was. Dives look less like dives if there’s a leg to initiate contact with. Arsehole commentators saying the old “there was contact” bollocks. Morata’s dive was due to being slightly pulled whilst jostling for a loose ball, in this situation I’m not sure why both legs would go from under a player just because of hands/arms on a player’s shoulder/torso? Another blatant dive.

You’re forgetting about the other party though - the defender against Willian was no where near the ball and had his leg firmly stuck out in front of it - whether William initiated contact or not you can’t do that as a defender

Of course you can. A defender can put his leg anywhere he likes (except up high) as long as it's not touching an opponent.

Maybe in your head, he stuck his leg out to intercept the traveling ball. What about a player throwing himself in to block?
Of course you can stick a leg out, it’s called an attempted tackle.

Corporal Jones in charge of the video. 'Kinell! Herod in charge of the NSPCC and turkeys in charge of the Christmas dinner. You just cannot make up the fuckin' blind alleys down which the FArce, the PL, PiGMol, Uefa and FICKFUFA lead the game of football.

Elleray is suggesting we are in the midst of 'teething problems'! No, David, we are in the midst of sheer bloody incompetence.

Riley said the other day that this would mainly be for pens/goals where there was 'an obvious mistake' mistaken identity, violent conduct etc.

We saw in the Leicester game, narrow offsides, changed by V.A.R.

Shearer said Riley told him that was because the incident was close to goal & had it been far away, it wouldn't have been reviewed. So how 'far away' is 'far away' & why is a marginal offside, 'clear and obvious'.

We have seen so few reviews, yet all of them have been marginal calls. So someone can just decide which is a 'marginal call' & which is a 'clear and obvious refereeing mistake' & the same people can decide which is 'violent conduct' & which isn't.

This gives them the option of altering the score of any game they choose to.

How the fuck do you think this is going to go ?

Agreed Neville, there's too much that comes down to the opinion of someone rather than a black and white decision. I'd like them to scrap it and just have goal line technology and post match diving bans for blatant diving.

Rugby and cricket have definitely had the shine taken off them because you see a key moment such as a try or a wicket but you know half the time they're going to spend 2 minutes checking it for faults... The IPL T20 cricket tournament, the biggest in the world doesn't actually use video refereeing (DRS in cricket lingo) and for me it's all the better for it. When something exciting happens you know that's set in stone, not that some suit in a box 50 miles away is going to take their time and then make a decision.

Is VAR going to be used in the World Cup this year do we know?

Pretty sure its decided in the next few days. Be surprised if they use it considering how many problems its caused but it is Fifa....

Pretty much what ive been saying the whole thread. How is fair some decisions go to VAR and not others?

The only way I can see it being implemented without fucking up the game is some type of challenge system.

A clear penalty for Brighton today which could have changed the outcome of the game - can’t blame the Ref for not spotting it as his vision was blocked - yet some are still against the ref getting some help from someone who can tell him in seconds it was a clear penalty. Unbelievable
