Watford Post Match Thread

Why? He had plenty of chances for his hat-trick and fluffed them, you don't think Kelechi deserved a run out? I personally don't think he's good enough but if we're not going to give players a run out when winning 5-0 then they ain't ever getting one.
You don't sub someone like aguero when he's on 2 goals. Bring the kid on but for Jesus.

I know the circumstances are different but this season was quite a contrast to last where we limped over the finish line to 4th; this season we powered into third, encouraging signs for the future

He would have carried on missing the chances he had. I never count the chances as goals but had he converted half of them, and they weren't exactly half chances, he would have had five or six. It is a delight to have Aguero firing on all cyclinders and the knowledge that he is here next season but he could have had two hat tricks. Iheanacho is a decent asset and even though he is not a perfect replacement for Sergio he justifies his place by his scoring record, although it seems to have dried up a touch lately.

Thank you Ian Wright for not jumping on the bandwagon and being honest in saying that third counts as success. Ok, we would have liked to have won the league, but Pep is not performing a quick fix - his type of football takes time to bed in. Make no mistake, we will be stronger next season. Talksport Press Pass give Liverpool 7/10 for the season and us 6/10. Eh ? So finish two points above, less face it, a superclub (Liverpool) who have a marquee manager who's been there two years, and somehow that counts for less ? On Wednesday Ajax will outplay the vermin who will hopefully get what their awful football deserves.

Liverpool aren't a superclub, they're a team that were really good 30 years ago.

And we have vastly underachieved this season no matter which way you slice it. You don't appoint Pep Guardiola then expect to finish third, 15 points off the title. He's so highly considered BECAUSE he can achieve success while bedding in.

For a club of our ambition 3rd is a failure.

Mind you, could be worse. Could be 6th.

On the contrary, Pep wasn't brought in for instant, short-term success alone. That's José's department. From day one he's asked for time to get it right, this was especially relevant because half the squad he inherited wasn't up to the task.

The fact is, plenty didn't expect anything from this season but top four. The media set us up for a fall and reveled in it, but all along (from our game in Bucharest even) Pep was warning the losses were coming and he had, according to sources, anticipated ending the season with nothing.

Last season, we ended with the League Cup, but it felt like nothing. Our performances were turgid, our players unenthusiastic and our management ready to be led out to pasture. This season it all feels very different, not because we have more of anything (and we do) but because of what is available to see on the park. This is what actually building feels like and, in that, this season was IMO a success. Next season will be even better.
