I remember him playing under Sven and being a really wonderful footballer. Then the mysterious injury that he could never shake off and the drink and fitness issues. Then gone, never to be heard of again.

I seem to recall Sven raving about what a talent he was, and how he'd go on to be an England great. You might have thought that even if he didn't reach the predicted heights, he'd have ended up at a Championship side at worst. But he seems to have vanished.

A great shame.

Didn't he open a business in Urmston? I remember seeing him out in town once when he was going through his injuries. Very talented player but the injuries got to him unfortunately.

One of my lads met him a few times through mutual friends. Last we heard was that he had bought a few houses to rent out.

Apparently he is a good lad but regardless of his obvious talent (and injuries) he just really didn’t enjoy playing football. Odd but if true fair enough and all the best to the lad.

I wish the lad well. Don't know him from Adam, but I enjoyed the games he played for us.

My kids live close to where he lives. Owns an estate agent in urmston, a restaraunt on burton road and a few properties. Has got himself a bit fitter and in a decent place.

Just a normal lad who didn't enjoy the football pressure.

I was wondering this myself a few months ago and it was such a shame to read all these articles from google. He was really exciting when he burst into the team and scored a cracker against Derby in Sven's first home game. I guess it's a reminder that footballers are still people and fame and wealth at a young age isn't always a good thing or satisfying for everyone. There is a lot to be said for having a 'normal' life - money doesn't buy happiness and so they may have different pressures but pressures all the same.
