Xbox live / Virgin Media help req'd

I'm trying to get online with xbox live but cannot get a connection. I keep getting the message MTU test failed, if this keeps happening callyour isp provider.

I have cable and i have phoned up virgin only to be given no help at all and was told to phone xbox.
I also have no router so the ethernet cable is just plugged straight into the back of my didgibox. So there is no way of altering my MTU settings.
Can anybody help? It would make me the best Dad in the world if i could get it on line.

If the internet has been connected to something else you will need to turn it off and on again before you connect it to the xbox. Try that.

Have already done that. it passes the ip address test and the DNS test then fails the MTU. it says that the connection has timed out.
 
I don't have an xbox but there may be something in your network settings for setting the MTU, probably needs to be on auto or 1500.
 
I've only gone and cracked it.
Have been trawling internet forums all afternoon.
