xbox360 hhd not working

second hand xbox 360 hdd not recognised anybody know what i have to do to make it useable by the xbox, i assume you have to format it to xbox file system but i dont know how to do that can anybody help?

Its under console settings-memory then select device-prepare for use . Xbox will only recognise FAT file system.

Could be that when selling someone used a pc to format the drive (this would need xbox transfer cable though, without stripping the drive) and formatted to ntfs.

i have checked all that using the cable and its fat fs but its not showing up in the xbox settings.
anymore advice??
