I think both Yaya and Kompany are the sort of players and characters who need to be playing nearly every week or not at all. Bringing them in and out of the team is no good. They create such an impact when they play that when they drop out they're badly missed.
Kompany almost certainly cannot play nearly every week because of his fitness. Yaya can play 3 or 4 games on the trot when he's very good but he can't maintain that level of performance.
Chelsea struggled last season partly because they had a similar dilemna with Terry. Conte has cut him adrift this season, to the point that he might as well have left, and they've been much better.
