Silly question regarding a made up scenario. But I'm curious if they had not broken up into many smaller nations, what would their current team makeup be like today and how far do you think they will progress in this World Cup? Provided all the players get along with each other that is. What do you all think?

It's purely hypothetical because you don't know how cliques and egos would develop in the dressing room, after all they had a great team in the 80s and didn't really achieve anything.

On paper a team of:

Begovic

Srna
Loveren
Vidic
Kolarov

Pjanic
Rakitic
Modric

Pandev
Dzeko
Mandzukic

And the other dozen or so permutations that'll be posted as the strength in depth is phenomenal; looks great on paper.

Yes that line up looks superb, not sure about the balance though or who will coach them. Don't forget our jovetic. And ivanovic, matic etc.

And Nastasić too!

Second question, AK seems pretty confident!

The team would most likely have a few more whose families fled the wars and now play for other countries.

Shaqiri with Switzerland, is the first that comes into my head. He was born in Yugoslavia. If I recall correctly, and I might not, during one of the Swiss WC matches the commentator said a number of their players were from the former Yugoslavia, at least the countries that were part of it.

Ibrahimavich's family fled the country to sweden when he was a boy because of the war plus probably others that repatronised, watched something, think on the bbc that said out of the bosnia squad, only dzecko stayed that's one of the reasons he's so idolised in bosnia

ah thanks. All brand new information to me. That would be some strike force. Ibra, Dzeko and manduzkic. Of course those 3 won't play at the same time

Lol thanks. Little did he know Spain would go out in the group stage.

SBNation.com did an article about this in 2013. I'm on my mobile and don't know how to link it. Do a search for "A Yugoslavia Dream Team." It should be easy to find that way.

Ta, better dead than red

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.sbnation.com/soccer/2013/3/21/4130588/yugoslavia-dream-team" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.sbnation.com/soccer/2013/3/2 ... dream-team</a>

Good read. Forgotten about subotic.

---------------------Begovic--------------------
Ivanovic--Subotic--Nastasic--Kolorov
---------------Modric---Matic----------------
-----Rakitic-----------------------Jovetic-----
------------Mandzukic--Dzeko--------------

Would be contenders at Euro 2016 IMO.

They booed him off the park in one of the home friendlies before the World Cup because they reckoned he wasn't trying.

At least it wasn't anything new for him.

And in answer to the original question, they'd be shit because they'd all hate each other.

USSR had nearly half the world to pick from and they never did anything at World Cups.
