bring back standing areas and the atmosphere would be much better of course. it's hard to get into it when you are seated.

When Sheikh Mansour pulls out one day, as he assuredly will, and we suffer some lean times you can bet your bottom dollar that these new found fans will be nowhere to be seen.

What does this mean? Pull out? Pull out how? He's going to spend over a billion investing in the club in the area and then just pull out... What, he's going to just take his money and leave the club to rot and not even try to sell it on? Surely no-one is stupid enough as to believe that but this only raises the issue of why anyone who would buy a valuable club which would cost upwards of a billion in a few short years who would then be happy to see it devalued? Going back to a presumed continuance of Sheikh Mansour ownership, is it not his intention to build a successful self-sustaining club - which is what this investment in infrastructure is all about? In that case, why the need to pull out?

Or, did you just make this throwaway comment to try to make a point about the tiny number of tourists and 'new fans' not being true fans?

TBH, I don't think a great deal of thought went into that particular comment, such is its stupidity.

The only thing that would have served to make it even more stupid would have been the words "when he gets bored" at the end.

And for the record Maine Road had plenty of shit, flat atmospheres. Many a dreary afternoon in the eighties was watched by me stood in the Kippax in relative quiet. I think some posters remember Charlton in '85 and imagine every game was like that. It most certainly wasn't.

One thing that Maine Rd didn't have was this attitude that if you speak with a foreign accent you're not worthy of being a blue, or if you are a new supporter you're not worthy of being a blue, or if you don't sing you're not worthy of being a blue, or if you sing certain songs you're not worthy of being a blue, or if you don't go to every game home and away you're not worthy of being a blue, or if you dare take a photo you're not worthy of being a blue.

Maine Rd is gone, sometimes I think some of the values of what being a Man City supporter is all about got lost in the move as well.

I don't think so either.

The rag alarm would have been ringing at that point.

We know Eastlands can generate an atmosphere, in fact an atmosphere to match anything I recall from Maine Road (remembering I'm from the post-proper Kippax era). It just doesn't happen nearly often enough. I don't really know what we can do about it at present though. I know I don't want the away fans moved to the third tier because banter is a good source of atmosphere. We've had a lot of laughs down in 111-109 even when the volume has been low. Swapping the away fans en-masse with one of the two sections is the most logical and easiest thing that has the potential to make an improvement. Perhaps then we can get those lazy feckers in the South Stand singing.

Every ground in england is the same now some days the atmospheres great other days it isnt, thats english football for you now there to many rules and regulations now for it to be any different. The foreign boys are different they are allowed to mostly do what they want on match days so they have great atmospheres most of the time, for english football to get anything even close to that would be to bring back standing and we all know that will probably never happen.

It's a lot more natural to get emotionally involved if your standing up. That's why people stand up from their seats when they get excited.

Not that I personally support/agree with operation one end.... IMO its the way the stadium is built that causes the problem. What was the North Stand, a single tier generating a wall of noise, has now become the South Stand, with the same fans near enough as the old North Stand, but it has been split in two, with the noise generated from the Lower not travelling upto the second tier!

BUT... I saw this the other week on the OS and I wonder if there is a bit of a cryptic clue that they are going to merge south and singers as one.... by briging them #together
