Any memories good or bad?

I remember him as a very reliable stopper at centre half, not flashy but a valuable member of the 67/8 Championship winning side......

Great player - hard as nails! He had thighs like tree trunks! Nobody messed with Big George. Very under rated player.

He was average, but looked better thanks to the unbelievably good team all around him. Probably the worst player in the regular 68 team.
He got dropped after the Fenerbache debacle early the next season and was second fiddle to Tommy Booth thereafter.

Him and the pub. It was the City Gates, loads of old City memorabilia adorned the gaff. Had a few tasty barmaids adorned with the City kit.

Yes,definitely hard as nails and could be just downright dirty when needed.

I remember one tackle at Maine Road on Alan Evans, think he was playing for Liverpool then, near to the main stand. He caught Evans on the thigh and hip,and not by accident, and yet only got booked.

Only problem with George was he had the same comb over as the ticket tout from the swamp

There's a Kevin Cummins pic of him stood outside the pub in the latest ManC magazine, the one with Zabba on the front.

Mate of mine is a big Northwich Vics fan, who he played for after City.
He said there was one wet / windy day and Heslop went up for a header, and that his wig went further than the ball and then landed in the mud!

There was a survey published in a programme among City players in the late 1960's, asking who was the best player that they had faced that season.

Mike Summerbee's response was George Heslop in a practice match.

Always gave of his best for City.
