When my father took me to Maine Road I used to think how good it would be to live near the ground but as I grew up I realised Moss Side wasn't the most welcoming of places.

Anyway, I now live in Sportcity (which I add to my postal address!) and pass the Etihad on the way to work, and on the way home again. Home it certainly is!

Happy days - but we never won f**k all (until Uncle Joe and Big Mal came along!)

Ironic statement considering your username.

Winning the FA Cup in 1956 was when I first became aware of Manchester City (I was seven years old at the time!) and my post was more about when I was a bit older (early/mid Sixties) and able to jump on the 53 bus unaccompanied to watch the boys in blue at Maine Road!

We certainly didn't win much around that time (until Uncle Joe came along!)

I still remember the feeling when my dad took me to Maine Road for the first time as a 5 year old in the 70's, there was no feeling like being at a football match, that stadium will always have a place in the hearts of those of us who watched the team there, but for me, Etihad is home for many reasons. When you invite friends, relatives and others into your home you want somewhere you can be proud of not a crumbling old house that has been patched up with a "make do and mend" philosophy, and that's what Maine Rd had become. As someone else pointed out, teams didn't fear coming to Maine Rd and quaint, quirky, slightly eccentric City that everyone loved to have a chuckle about, give us a pat on the back and say " poor old City" that is certainly not the case at the Etihad, teams fear us, we have become THE dominant team at home where teams come with a mentality of "let's try and keep the score we lose by down". It's a stadium fans of promoted teams eagerly anticipate visiting and mark down in their calendars. But the biggest reason for me to call it home was the moments of joy I spent with my son their last season(his first season with a season ticket) culminating in that day in May, to be stood hugging him with tears of joy in my eyes as the final whistle went and the realisation dawned that we were PL Champions, I knew then more than ever that Etihad was home!

We play our home games there and i dont mind it.

But being a south manchester boy and having spent the best years
of my life watching us at MR,then nothing else can ever truly be home.
