The Community Shield seems to have lost some of it's prestige over the years thanks to wall to wall football on TV but it still is the curtain raiser to the new season and the first piece of silverware on offer. Another chance to see City lift a trophy and one less that anyone else can win. If heaven forbid it's all City win this year, wouldn't you be gutted not to have been there?

It's made out of wood

Agreed, I'm hyped for this match! Minor or not, the Community Shield is a trophy, an honour! We've been wanting trophies of any kind for years. All of the top clubs list their pre-season league vs. super "super cup" on their list of honours, and we haven't won the Shield since 72. Some Blues are getting really spoiled, in a few years at this rate they'll be "Fook the FA Cup off, tinpot trophy...". I wonder if more people would consider it important if we renamed it the English Super Cup.

You could go on your own? And before you say thats saaaaaaaaaad I went Birmingham on my own about 2 seasons ago and every blue is always up for a laugh so technically you're never on your own as you're pretty much in good company when you get there! :)

It would appear that it's not only a number of City fans that can't be arsed with this game then ??

But it is just a glorified pre-season friendly, and I've always said that. The only reason I wanted to us to play in it is because it would have meant we had achieved a little bit of success the previous season.
If we win it, that's fine. If we lose, that's fine too. I, nor the players, won't be arsed either way. It will be nice to see how we play in a tough match with this new system.

" a little bit of success"!!!!!! Becoming champions of England is hardly a little bit of success. OH how I love the complacency some of our fans already have! Remember when we were shit? Please dont turn into the arrogant, full of shit type of fans that Old TRafford is full of.

It is a little bit of success though. 2 trophies in 35 years doesn't make us a memorable club yet. If anything, it's you who is being arrogant.

Try telling the 40,000+ fans that were in floods of tears at the final whistle against QPR that it wasn't memorable. "2 trophies in 35 years" you sound like all those bitter reds. Are you sure you're a blue?

The day was memorable for sure. But if we were to go bust tomorrow, we wouldn't be remembered like you hope we will be. You spoke about "stating facts" in a previous post, well 2 trophies in 35 years is a fact. Everton have won something similar in that timeframe, would you call them a big, memorable club? Blues are modest, humoured people. Are you sure you're a blue?

It's so important that one year the first division champions Derby and the FA Cup winners Leeds declined the invitation to play in the game. Instead fourth placed City and third division champions Villa (yes, third division!) played in it instead.

It's not important at all. We played 54 games last season, the Community Shield was the 55th most important game just ahead of the 56th 57th and 58th most important ones in the Dublin Supercup. People moaned last year when we took 22000 to Wembley for it yet could barely muster that for a home game in the League Cup against Brum when that game was more important. There were no threads telling everyone off for not bothering going to that were there?! And we barely mustered 10000 more than that (with 5500 Liverpool fans) for the League Cup semi-final which was miles more important than the fucking Comm' Shield!

If you think it's important, fine. Go, enjoy it, sing some songs, then forget about it like everyone else for another twelve months. But don't bang on at people who don't want to go because they think it's just an exhibition game (which it is!). There may be 60 more important games than the Comm' Shield this coming season, I bet you all wont be at all 60 so why moan at us for not being at possibly the 61st most important?!

cannot see how you arrive at city only taking 22000 to last years community shield, the attendance was over 77000, club wembley was only half full, so if you split the 90000 capacity into 2, a maximum 45000 could have sat at uniteds end, which it didnt because club wembley was half full, there was easy 30k plus in the city end all told
