tbf with maicon on we got completley ripped down the side by ronaldo and marcelo. They should have scored when he was on -with higuain missing an absoloute sitter.

the goals we then conceded were collective mistakes made in all areas of the back four, you can hardly say its mostly zabas fault

We were being ripped apart in the midfield throughout the game which caused our backfour (Maicon and theN later Zab included) to be exposed constantly.

At one point it was almost a defensive drill where our lads had been told not to leave our half. The blame should be shared and not focused on Maicon. You cannot judge his overall skill level so quickly based on a game that could make anyone (including Zab) look pedestrian.

im not judging his overall skill level, just saying he wasnt great and defending zaba who may not have been good- but not really at fault for the then two conceded goals :)

Oh, then I take it all back. ;-)

Posted this back in September, figured he could offer us something different going forward. Great signing, thus far imo.

At first, when I heard we were going for Maicon, I could only help but thinking, "what the fuck?" But the more I thought about it, I realised that this could be a very astute signing. Ask most Inter fans and they'll tell you he's still one of the better attacking fullbacks in the world.

Okay, he's not as fast as he once was but his attacking ability has not left him. Let's not forget that Kolarov and Zabaleta are slower than him and if they can still fire all those crosses despite their lack of pace, then I can imagine what a motivated Maicon could do as he would be the best crosser at the club.

He's comfortable in possession. Not many fullbacks are and the best ones tend to share this trait. A player like him isn't restricted to the flank and can easily slot into midfield and attacking positions to help build an attack.

I think he's a bit like Kolarov with better crossing, passing, dribbling, and a knack for making things happen on his day.

Sometimes our RBs (and LBs, but mostly RBs) squander too many good chances, or make the wrong choices when in the right positions. I think a seasoned vet like Maicon could really make a difference when called on, and help teach our developing players like Richards.

I'm converted, I saw it as a panic buy because of Micah's injury but today he was quality.

He seems to play like the pitch is down a hill judging by how quick he is getting forward and how slow getting back. Also did he have a go at a fan while he had the ball today? About 50 minutes in. Does anyone know what that was about?

Decent signing I think, he's impressed in the last two matches. A right sided Kolarov - valuable when the opposition is offering nothing but I wouldn't like to have him on in anything other than one way traffic games like today.

Mint performance again, really looking good, once again took a little time to get into the game but what a great signing he is looking.
