According to Reuters, Gerard Piqué is to be sold this summer. Apparently Pep demands this or else he'll refuse to sign a new contact. It's believed that Gerard Piqué's glamorous relationship with Shakira is the cause for this rather unexpected request from Pep.

If he indeed turns out to be available should we go after him? We are in need of a good central defender comfortable on the ball.
Perhaps he'd prefer to go back to his old club United?

Without question we should go for him! I think he's quality.

One of the most overrated defenders in Europe IMO, makes loads of mistakes when Barca are put under pressure. Better out there especially for the price he'd cost.

he's a marginal upgrade on lescott, for far too much money

Overrated comes with playing for Barca I guess... but he ticks a lot of boxes for us: good defender (obviously), good in possession, good passer, loads and loads of experience, speaks or two main languages (Eng and Spa) and could probably help us, like YaYa did and still do, getting that right squad mentality.

He's had a poor season by his standard, but he is still only 25 years old, and no I don't think he would cost crazy-much, probably around £12-15mil. His wages would be very high though.

I prefere Joleon tbh.

An upgrade on Lescott, even if it is just marginal, would mean he's a very very good defender. We already have the best CB pair in the league in Vinny and Joleon.

Why spend a load of money on someone else to break that up then?

Pique is a good player but I don't think we need him.
