I am always confused on what to do here. Lescott was class this past season and does quite well with Vinny. I also like having a left footed CB at his position. He is also a good guy for the locker room, seems funny and the relationship between him Micah and NDJ is great to have on a team.
That said, he scares me on the ball every time he touches it, and is so slow(see Bothroyd run in QPR game.) I love him to death but would rather see him as 3rd choice with someone more agile, fast and comfortable on the ball as the second choice back.
Someone I would love to give a shot to would be Dejan Lovren at Lyon. Young at 23, good on the ball and a great distributor, comfortable with the ball at both feet, good in the tackle, solid in the air(though not as good as Lescott.) He would be my realistic pairing with Vinny.
I agree with you to an extent, lescott has been class for us however imo his lack of ball skills and speed make me think we do need someone who is class to rotate with him for the champs leagues games especially however if your looking at bringing in somebody who is world class will they rotate? i do not think so, therefore i believe a defender who is youngish who is very good already with the potential to be world class would be the best option, maybe lovren could be that man (not seen much of him myself), as ive already stated id look at papadoplous from, schalke.
